Cindy Barratt, ASA
Cindy was born and resided in Spruce Grove, Alberta until 2009, at which time she moved nearby to Stony Plain. She is a self-taught, professional artist, who was interested in art since childhood and in 1991 decided to pursue it as a full-time career.
For many years Cindy primarily worked in watercolour or acrylic with the focus of capturing flowers, their beauty, their “souls” and personalities and from time to time still returns to her “floral roots”. In recent years she has broaden her scope of work to include landscapes, flora and fauna of various conservation and natural areas in the hopes she can generate appreciation, educate and promote the importance of conserving and protecting natural areas, habitats and their species.
In 2013 Cindy began developing an exhibition of works featuring the Iconic Alberta Rose. Working in both watercolour and acrylic these paintings capture the Alberta Rose in various stages, habitats, seasons and conditions, allowing the viewer to draw the parallels between it's nuances and the province and people of Alberta. The exhibition runs Dec/Jan 2015 at McMullen Gallery, U of A Hospital and VASA Gallery in St. Alberta in August 2015.
Cindy is also very active in the arts community and is a longstanding member of the Allied Arts Council of Spruce Grove and juried member of the Alberta Society of Artists and volunteers with both organizations. She currently teaches classes and workshops at Metro Continuing Education in Edmonton, the AAC in Spruce Grove, and various communities in Alberta.
In 2008, Cindy received the Award of Excellence in the category of Arts from the City of Spruce Grove in recognition of her achievements as an artist as well as for her years of volunteer service with the Allied Arts Council of Spruce Grove. Her work can be found in collections such as the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Alberta Treasury Branches, Parkland County, Saskatchewan Government Insurance and the City of Spruce Grove as well many more corporate and private collections. She is represented by The Art Gallery of Alberta, Sales & Rentals, Edmonton, Candler Art Gallery in Camrose, AB, Leighton Art Centre, Calgary, AB, and The Spruce Grove Art Gallery, AB.

"THE ICONIC ALBERTA ROSE"
This exhibition explores the Iconic Alberta Rose, in its various stages and seasons, that so aptly reflects our province and its people. The hardy, yet beautiful and delicate wild rose, seems to grow and thrive in a multitude of habitats, some pristine and others seemingly hostile, such as ditches and road sides. Beneath its beauty and delicate fragrant blossoms, handsome spray of leaves...it also has that prickly side and persistent nature that keeps popping up even after its gets cut, mowed down or sprayed. In fall, it's fruit, rose hips, and fabulous foliage are just as impressive as the summer blossoms. The rose hips have a wide spread appeal for both people and birds...food and medicinal.
